Work from Mark Ludak's series Transition: Vietnam is on display in the windows of the Art Alliance of Monmouth County for the month of November. Lludak traveled through Vietnam over a two-year period exploring the rapid change taking place in Vietnam as it becomes a significant part of the the global economy. Ludak views his travel and the resulting photography as both a journal of the physical geographic journey as well as a journey of self-discovery. In 2018 Ludak was awarded an Individual Fellowship in Visual Art-Photography from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. In 2016 he received a Puffin Foundation Grant for photography. He is the recipient two Monmouth University Grants in Aid of Creativity, and a grant from the Urban Coast Institute of Monmouth University. Most recently his work has been exhibited at Wheaton Arts Center, the Arts Council of Princeton at Princeton Public Library, Pollak and Ice House Galleries at Monmouth University, Photography Resource Center at Boston University and the Hamilton & Ar-ronson Galleries at University of the Arts in Philadelphia as part of the Society for Pho-tographic Education's 50th Annual Exhibition. He has completed commissions for Apple, Solebury Township Land Preservation Fund, Ford Foundation and Environmental Defense Defense Fund among others over a twenty-five year career. His editorial work has appeared in publications including The New York Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News, Der Spiegel, Time, Newsweek, US News & World Report and others. For his photojournalistic work he was awarded a Keystone Press Award for Excellence in Journalism. He has received nu-merous awards for his collaborative work with graphic designers and creative directors for annual reports, exhibition catalogs, and corporate communications. Since 2006 Mark has taught at Monmouth University, as a Specialist Professor of Pho-tography he coordinates the photography concentration in studio art. Previously he taught at Hunter College-CUNY, San Francisco State University and the Printmaking Center of New Jersey. In the fall of 2018 he was appointed as an MFA Artist-Mentor at the New Hampshire Institute of Art. Mark graduated from Middletown H.S. and had a studio in Red Bank while a graduate student at Hunter College in New York, where he received his MFA in photography af-ter completing undergraduate studies in philosophy at Villanova University and Mon-mouth University. He studied fine art at Parsons School of Design. In the main gallery space at Art Alliance work will be shown on the themes Light and Night. An Artists' Reception will be held Saturday, November 3, from 6-8 PM. Re-freshments will be served, and the public is invited to attend.
