‘If music be the food of love, “sing” on.’ The immortal words of William Shakespeare have been celebrated through the centuries in opera and song. The Shrewsbury Chorale will present Bardolatry, a delightful program of choral arrangements of words selected from the Bard’s plays and poetry. This performance, directed by Guest Conductor, John Balme, and accompanied by Louise Chernosky, will take place on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at 3 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Monmouth County, 1475 W. Front St., Lincroft, NJ. The concert will include charming choral settings by Benjamin Britten, Thomas Morley, Robert Johnson, Roger Quilter, Matthew Harris, and George Shearing, spanning the Renaissance to the modern period. Styles vary from traditional to upbeat jazz arrangements covering themes of love, desire, death, nature, and even fantastical fairies. All are adapted from Shakespeare’s immortal sonnets and plays. Please join us for a delightful concert, perfect for a lazy summer afternoon, and bone up on your Shakespeare as well. Tickets at the door are $25 (Adult); $20 (Student/Senior); and $10 (Child).
