Violet is comprised of music by Jeanine Tesori and libretto by Brian Crawley. Based on the short story "The Ugliest Pilgrim" by Doris Betts, Violet tells the tale of a young disfigured woman who embarks on a fascinating journey by bus from her farm in Spruce Pine, North Carolina all the way to Tulsa, Oklahoma in the hopes of mending a childhood scar on her face. With nothing more than a suitcase, a bus ticket, and a heart full of hope, Violet travels across the country and meets two soldiers who accompany her on this journey of self-discovery and healing. Full of music, dancing, and romance, Violet tells the story of how inner beauty can outshine any physical imperfections.
