Aida Jones Abstractions Explore Imperfection and Light

Art Alliance of Monmouth County

33 Monmouth St
Red Bank, NJ 07701

Aida Jones finds inspiration in the outside world; the aching elegance of an abandoned building chipped and rusted, the cracks, crevices, and weathered marks that time leaves behind. In her abstract paintings Jones expresses this interest through rough textures that create a path away from the shiny, the flawless, and the manufactured to find beauty in the imperfect textures of decay. As Leonard Cohen said " “Forget your perfect offering, there is a crack in everything - that's how the light gets in.” Light comes through her canvasses. Shapes may look like windows with light coming from behind or dabs of paint may highlight an area to draw the viewer in. Light reflects across the uneven terrain of smooth and rough surfaces and changes from bright to subtle. Aida Jones is a Maplewood, NJ based artist. Jones studied at NY’s Art Students League and holds a MFA from School of Visual Arts in NYC. Aida has acted as curator, board member, art director, and consultant on many arts programs in the state of NJ. Her work has been exhibited in group and solo shows throughout NY and NJ and has sold to various private collections. In the main Gallery Jones will jury work by Art Alliance members on the themes I See Me and Trees.
